Wonders of malolos

The White House of Malolos

Sandy Gee C. Santiago

We’ve neglected the past lately; it’s time to bring it back.

Malolos is known for its rich ancestral houses and landmarks that are visited by tourists every so often. For instance, there is Barasoain Church and the Casa Real Shrine. However, one that is probably not on the radar of most people is the Hermogenes Reyes House.

The Hermogenes Reyes house or White House in the small barangay of Sto. Nino was established in 1904. The White House is pleasing to the eye, servicing a conservative and old-fashioned way of life. Meanwhile, the ambiance of it screams the Baroque style with traces of the capiz windows on the facade.

The house was owned by both influential couple Hermogenes and Teodora Reyes. It was said that their families had ruled Malolos’ economical, political, and social sphere in the middle of the 19th century. With the speed of life, the said house started its renovation for the first 15-room heritage building in the city.
