The Department of Energy (DOE) donated a total of 170 electronic tricycles or e-trikes last April 27 to the City of Malolos in Bulacan, with 100 e-trikes designated for use by tourists traveling around Malolos’ historical landmarks.

Tourists coming from outside Malolos and Bulacan will be able to utilize the e-trikes through the Malolos City Tourism Office’s offer for travel from Barasoain Church to other areas in Malolos such as Casa Real, Cathedral Church, and Houses of Kadalagahan as part of the “Lakbay-History” Package which started back in 2011.

Former Malolos Mayor Christian Natividad said that the DOE donated the said e-trikes with each e-trike being able to fit up to six people.

“The 100 e-trikes are currently parked at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center garage where it is individually under review or check-up and will be turned over to the Malolos City Tourism Office,” he stated according to Philippine News Agency.

Meanwhile, the remaining 70 e-trikes were allocated to 51 barangays in Malolos for patrolling or “e-trike Patrol.” 51 e-trikes were given to each barangay while 19 are used by the City Government.

The DOE donated the 170 e-trikes as part of the Market Transformation Program which distributed 3,000 e-trikes across different regions of the country. The Program is funded by the P1.7 billion loan agreement with Asian Development Bank.

Malolos Mayor Bebong Gatchalian and General Services Officer Engr. Rey Garcia also hosted an orientation for the official drivers of the e-trikes to instruct them on the driving and upkeep of the e-trikes before their distribution.
